Is Unlimited 5G really unlimited?
On your phone, yes: no daily cap and no speed cap. Like every plan, it follows the network’s Fair Usage Policy, which looks at your use over the last 3 days. If use is judged excessive, speed may be limited to about 1 Mbps for a while. The exact threshold isn’t published. Hotspot has its own total (days − 1 GB); beyond it, hotspot runs at 128 kbps.
How are the three plans different?
Unlimited 5G has no data cap and no speed cap on your phone. Unlimited 10 Mbps has no data cap, with speed up to 10 Mbps. A Data Package gives 12, 21 or 30 GB at full speed, shared by phone and hotspot; after that, speed drops to 128 kbps. The Fair Usage Policy applies to every plan.
Is this roaming? Which network will I use?
It isn’t roaming. It’s a Japanese local line on the KDDI (au) network, connected directly to KDDI’s network in Japan rather than routed through a roaming hub abroad. In Okinawa, the au network is run by Okinawa Cellular. The service is provided by ROKKODE Inc., a telecommunications carrier in Japan, under its Japanese-language MVNO terms, and sold by Vision Factory LLC.
Will I get 5G everywhere?
You’ll connect on 5G where your phone, its bands and the local network support it. Everywhere else, you’ll connect on KDDI’s 4G LTE. Speed and coverage vary with location, time of day and congestion.
Will my phone work?
Your phone must support eSIM, be carrier-unlocked, support LTE Band 18 or Band 26 (Band 1 alone isn’t enough), and be allowed for use in Japan. The eSIM is made for smartphones and tablets; routers and other devices aren’t guaranteed. Phones with the same name can differ by region, so check your exact model number.
Can I install it before I leave?
Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi. Your days only start when the eSIM first connects to the network in Japan. Please start using it by the start-by date we send with your eSIM; if you haven’t connected by then, your days start on that date.
When do my days start and end?
Day 1 is the day your eSIM first connects in Japan. Days change at 00:00 Japan time (UTC+9), not 24 hours after you connect: if you first connect at 22:00, day 2 starts two hours later. Your plan ends at 23:59 Japan time on the last day.
Can I use hotspot?
Yes, on every plan. Unlimited 5G and Unlimited 10 Mbps include a hotspot total of days − 1 GB (2 GB on 3 days, up to 30 GB on 31 days); beyond it, hotspot runs at 128 kbps. A Data Package shares one total between phone and hotspot. Some Android phones need one extra APN setting for hotspot, and our setup guide shows how.
Do I get a phone number?
No. This is a data-only eSIM, so there’s no phone number, calls, SMS or emergency calls. Keep your home SIM for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, iMessage or FaceTime over data.
Can I reinstall it or move it to another phone?
No. The eSIM installs once, on one phone. If you delete it, it can’t be reinstalled, so keep it in your settings until your trip is over, even if something goes wrong.
It won’t connect. What should I check?
Check that the eSIM line is on and selected for mobile data. On Android, if the APN isn’t set automatically, choose “5G NET” (not “5G NET for DATA”) or enter it as shown in our setup guide. On iPhone, go to Settings › General › VPN & Device Management and remove any profile left by another carrier, but not the eSIM itself. If it still won’t connect, contact us without deleting the eSIM.
Can I get a refund or extend my plan?
Plans can’t be topped up or extended, so please choose enough days. Until you show your QR code or activation code on My Page, you can cancel for a full refund, even after our email has arrived. After that, refunds aren’t available. If the eSIM then won’t work in Japan, contact us and we’ll check and send a replacement eSIM. Replacements don’t cover phones that don’t meet the requirements, connection settings such as the APN that weren’t applied, or a deleted eSIM.
