NX MOBILEJapan eSIM

Setup guide

From home Wi-Fi to Japan’s network, in four steps.

Install at home, switch it on when you land. Choose your phone and we’ll show the matching steps.

01Before you fly

Three checks before you start.

A minute now saves an afternoon in Japan.

Check your phone

It must support eSIM, be carrier-unlocked, support LTE Band 18 or 26, and be allowed in Japan. Check your exact model number.

Use stable Wi-Fi

Install over a stable Wi-Fi connection, with the QR code open on another screen.

Never delete it

The eSIM installs once. If you delete it, it can’t be reinstalled, so keep it even if something goes wrong and contact us.

02Install

Install the eSIM at home.

Show your QR code on My Page (the link is in your email) and scan it, or enter the details by hand. Nothing is counted until the eSIM first connects in Japan.

Scan the QR code

  1. Open Settings › Cellular › Add eSIM.
  2. Choose “Use QR Code” and scan the QR code shown on My Page.
  3. Follow the prompts. If asked, label the line “Japan”.
  1. Open Settings and find your SIM menu (for example, Network & internet › SIMs, or Connections › SIM manager).
  2. Choose to add an eSIM, then scan the QR code shown on My Page.
  3. Follow the prompts to download the eSIM.

Enter it manually

  1. Open Settings › Cellular › Add eSIM › Use QR Code.
  2. Tap “Enter Details Manually”.
  3. Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code shown on My Page.
  1. In the same SIM menu, choose to add an eSIM.
  2. Choose the option to enter a code instead of scanning.
  3. Enter the activation code shown on My Page.

Menu names can differ slightly by iOS version and region (Cellular may be called Mobile Data).

Menu names differ by maker and Android version.

03In Japan

Land, switch it on, and you’re online.

Turn the line on and choose it for mobile data. Your first connection in Japan is day 1.

In Japan

  1. Open Settings › Cellular and tap your Japan eSIM.
  2. Turn on “Turn On This Line”.
  3. Go back to Settings › Cellular › Cellular Data and choose the Japan eSIM.
  4. Data Roaming can stay off: this is a Japanese line, not roaming.
  1. Open your SIM menu and turn the Japan eSIM on.
  2. Set it as the SIM for mobile data.
  3. Data roaming can stay off: this is a Japanese line, not roaming.
  4. If data doesn’t start, check the APN in step 4.

Day 1 is the day of your first connection in Japan. Days change at 00:00 Japan time, not 24 hours after you connect, and your plan ends at 23:59 Japan time on the last day.

04If it won’t connect

Not connecting? Check these, in order.

Whatever happens, don’t delete the eSIM — it can’t be reinstalled.

  1. Is the line on and chosen for data?

Check that the eSIM line is turned on and selected for mobile data. Data roaming can stay off.

  2. Android: check the APN

If the APN is set automatically and data works, you don’t need to change anything. If it isn’t set automatically, enter these settings.

    • If “5G NET for DATA” is selected, change it to “5G NET”.
    • If data still doesn’t work with the 5G settings, try the 4G settings.
    • For hotspot, some phones need “dun” in the APN type field. If the field already has text, keep it and add ,dun at the end. This can be needed even when the APN was set automatically.
  3. iPhone: remove old carrier profiles

Go to Settings › General › VPN & Device Management. If a configuration profile from another mobile carrier is still installed, delete it. That profile is different from your eSIM — don’t delete the eSIM.
